Base 4

The main emphasis of Base 4 is to develop the students capabilities as young adults, and to prepare them for the transition to their post-school placements.

FE Students on a visit to llangollen festivalBase 4 curriculum covers Careers, English, Maths, ICT, Personal, Health and Social Education, PE, RE, Creative Arts, Food Technology and Independence in the Community.

All subjects focus on developing the students’ independence skills. In Food Technology they learn to make snacks and simple meals; English and Maths skills are practiced in the community by handling money, watching the time, asking for information, using computers to make multimedia talking books and learning about feelings and how to express them appropriately.

During their last two years at school, students will spend a full day each week in the community, learning to travel safely and use local facilities. We visit the students’ home communities so that they skills they learn will help them when they leave school.
